Consult with other skilled and experienced practitioners
Family violence can have the gravest of consequences. It is important to draw upon the experience and skills of family violence professionals when you are responding to women and children affected by family violence, or to men who are using violent and controlling behaviour. Many professionals call the Men's Referral Service to talk through their concerns, or to identify appropriate pathways for a client. We welcome these calls.
There is also a very useful resource about responding to female clients you think might be experiencing violence. Whilst produced for general practitioners, this brief booklet will be helpful for any health or human service professional - click here to download this booklet.
No To Violence Male Family Violence Prevention Association can also provide training on responding to male family violence issues. For more information, visit the No To Violence website.
^ TOP ^Collaborate with other service providers
Individuals and organisations across Australia are working together to prevent and respond to male family violence. Their efforts include community education, professional development, and activities to enhance and strengthen the responses of the service system. Contact us to learn about what is being done in your community and elsewhere.
^ TOP ^Donate to women’s family violence services
Services for women and children affected by family violence can never keep up with demand. Whilst the state government has increased funding over the last few years, this can never cover more than very basic costs.
Women and children who are forced to leave their homes to escape violence often leave with very little. Having access to clothes, personal items and toys can make a real difference to their recovery and self-confidence in the weeks and months after leaving. Many women also need financial support to establish themselves in a new place.
Raising or donating money for a local family violence service can be a great way to show your support for women and kids in a very practical way. Contact us to find out how to donate.
