Concerned about someone's behaviour

If you're visiting this webpage, it might be because somebody you know has told you that he's been violent towards a partner. Or maybe you've been feeling uncomfortable about how a friend, colleague or family member treats his partner. Maybe you have a neighbour whom you can hear abusing his partner.

This section of our website focuses on what you can do if you learn or fear that someone you know — a friend, family member, colleague or neighbour — is using violent and controlling behaviour.

Responding to violence when it's happening

If you hear or see anything that makes you think violence is occurring, you should ring the police on 000. They have the training, resources and legal standing to manage the situation.

Do not attempt to intervene in a situation of physical violence, or where physical violence might occur. Your safety is as important as anyone else's.
